Memorial Park Skating Trail Grand Opening
Official ribbon-cutting to take place January 10 during Mayor and Council’s New Year’s Levee and Skate
The Town of Stouffville is thrilled to announce the grand opening of the new Memorial Park Skating Trail, which will be celebrated during the Mayor and Council’s New Year’s Levee and Skate on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 6:00 PM.
The event will kick off with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a special performance by the Stouffville Skating Club. After the performance, residents and visitors will be invited to participate in the first official public skate on the trail. Complimentary hot beverages will be available to the first 500 attendees.
“The Memorial Park Skating Trail represents an incredible investment in our community’s future from the federal and provincial governments,” said Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt. “We are proud to open this trail and look forward to seeing it become a cherished destination for the entire community.”
The Memorial Park Skating Trail was made possible through funding from the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).
The Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream supports improvements to cultural and community infrastructure and upgrades to recreational facilities.
Through ICIP, the Government of Canada is contributing $2,230,800, the Government of Ontario is contributing $1,858,814 and the Town of Stouffville is contributing $1,487,386 towards this project. This combined investment of $5,577,000 supported the development of the 275-metre, refrigerated, and fully accessible skating trail portion of this project, establishing a vibrant community hub for all seasons.
“This project not only provides a central, accessible space for winter sport and activity but also creates a year-round recreation space for residents of all ages and abilities,” said Commissioner of Community Services, Rob Braid.
“Our government is proud to support local infrastructure projects that will lay the foundation for strong, vibrant communities and make a real difference in people’s lives,” said Kinga Surma, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure. “This project is part of our most ambitious capital plan to invest more than $191 billion over the next decade to build and expand highways, transit, homes, high-speed internet and other critical infrastructure that will support economic growth.”
Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend this special celebration and be part of this exciting milestone for the Town of Stouffville. For more information, please visit townofws.ca/newyearslevee
