Town of Stouffville Offers Condolences Following the Passing of Pope Francis

The Town of Stouffville extends heartfelt condolences to members of the Catholic community and all those mourning Pope Francis' passing.

His holiness passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at age 88, following ongoing health challenges. He was the first Latin American and Jesuit pope, serving as head of the church since 2013.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathies to Stouffville’s Catholic & wider Christian community as we mourn the passing of Pope Francis,” said Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt. “His Holiness modeled a life of humility, generosity and Jesus to us all. Now in the presence of the Father, may his memory be a blessing to us all. I have requested that all flags be lowered to half-mast to honour His Holiness.”

His Holiness was known for his efforts to modernize the church, protect the environment, support marginalized groups and promote peace and dialogue worldwide.

The Town of Stouffville mourns with our community and beyond during this time of reflection and remembrance.
