Town Of Stouffville Unveils Two Playgrounds In Memorial Park
The Town of Stouffville was pleased to celebrate the unveiling of two new playgrounds in Stouffville's largest park, Memorial Park, this afternoon.
Mayor Iain Lovatt, members of Stouffville Council and Town staff unveiled the new playgrounds which provide a safe and inclusive play space for children of all abilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the benefits of play. The new spaces are designed to have increased accessibility, with smooth surfaces, wide pathways, and accessible seating areas.
The upgrades include the building of:
- accessible pathways and routes to and through the play spaces;
- diverse ground-level play components along an accessible route;
- partially ramped structures allowing users with mobility challenges to access elevated play components;
- play elements with lower-profile accessible stairs so users with limited mobility can access elevated play components;
- handrails and other mobility aids;
- surfacing that is made of engineered wood fiber that ensures easy access and mobility; and
- sensory elements, including sensory play panels.
The construction and installation of the playgrounds were made possible through a $560,000-Government of Canada investment through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
“Canadians want safe, accessible community spaces that everyone can enjoy. These new playgrounds are sure to bring more families to these wonderful gathering spaces for years to come. Our government is happy to invest in the Stouffville community.” said the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister Responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
“I am so pleased to see this investment come to life in two new and exciting spaces for our community to enjoy. These new, accessible playgrounds are helping ensure that all children can experience the benefits of play and community.” said the Honourable Helena Jaczek, Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Member of Parliament for Markham-Stouffville.
"Council is thrilled to be able to offer these new playgrounds to our community," said Mayor Lovatt. "We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to play and explore. This playground is designed to create a safe and inclusive space where all children can have fun and build lifelong memories. We are so grateful for the support of our Federal government to allow us to bring this to our residents."
