The process of swabbing is a common practice used throughout the water industry by many municipalities to maintain watermain infrastructure integrity. For more information on the process, please visit townofws.ca/swabbing
During this time, it is important that you do not use the water in your home. If possible, we recommend that you close your main water shutoff (by the water meter) before swabbing begins to avoid any inadvertent running of water - which may result in discolored water/sediment to be drawn into your internal plumbing. If you are not able to turn off the main water supply, please isolate hot water tanks, bypass water softeners and irrigation systems for the duration of the work period.
Once the swabbing is completed, please open a cold water tap closest to the water meter and run until the water is clear. Before running the washing machine, ensure that the taps are open, and the water has been flushed to clear.
HELPFUL TIPS TO PREPARE YOUR HOUSEHOLD
- Before the scheduled work begins, fill up a clean container with tap water for drinking and cooking (store in the fridge)
- Complete all dishwashing, clothes washing, and other water use activities
- Fill your bathtub with water for use around the house (you may use a pail to transfer water from the bathtub to the toilet bowl to allow your toilet to flush)
