Zoning By-laws are a set of regulations governing land uses that implement the policies in the Official Plan. A Zoning By-law contains specific requirements that provide a way of managing land use and future development that is legally enforceable. It also protects property owners from conflicting land uses.
More specifically, it regulates:
- the types of buildings and uses that are permitted
- where buildings and structures can locate on a property
- the lot sizes and dimensions, parking requirements, building heights, setbacks from the street and other such regulations

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville Official Plan contains the land use designations and policies which establish the general pattern of development for the existing and future use of the lands in the Town.
The Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan is an ecologically based Plan that provides land use and resource management direction for the 190,000 hectares of land and water within the Moraine.
The Oak Ridges Moraine Map shows the land use designations map, including Natural Core Areas, Natural Linkage Areas, Countryside Areas and Settlement Areas, as defined by the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan.
York Region is the upper-tier municipality that the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is a part of. The York Region Official Plan describes the Region’s policies for how lands within the Region should be used and coordinates future plans for growth.
The York Region Official Plan Map shows the land use designations for lands as found in the York Region Official Plan Maps and Figures.
The Greenbelt Map identifies where urbanization should not occur in order to provide permanent protection to the agricultural land base and the ecological and hydrological features, areas and functions occurring on this landscape, as identified by the Greenbelt Plan.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) are local watershed management organizations dedicated to conserving, protecting, restoring and managing their respective watersheds
