Town Seeks Input on Communications & Community Engagement for New Strategy
The Town of Stouffville is reaching out to residents and local business owners seeking input on how we communicate everything from Council decisions to community events to changes in process. The Communications & Community Engagement survey is now live at townofws.ca/CommsSurvey.
Town Of Stouffville Granted "Strong Mayor Powers"
On August 21, the Province revealed that Stouffville, along with 20 other municipalities in Ontario, would be granted ‘strong mayor powers.’ These powers came into effect yesterday. This change was introduced in alignment with the Province’s core focus and pledge to boost housing availability by 1.5 million new homes by 2031.
Enbridge Gas Teams Up With Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services To Reduce Fire And Carbon Monoxide Deaths Through Safe Community Project Zero
Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge Gas) and Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire & Emergency Services (WSFES) announced they are working together to improve home safety and to bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero. WSFES received 288 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through Safe Community Project Zero–a public education campaign with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC) that will provide more than 10,000 alarms to residents in 50 municipalities across Ontario.
Stay Informed About Blue-Green Algae
Some area lakes in Stouffville may have conditions that lead to blue-green algae blooms developing. Blue-green algae is a type of harmful bacteria that can appear in bodies of water. These microscopic organisms, scientifically known as cyanobacteria, can pose risks to both humans and animals.
Construction Notice for Reeves Way Blvd. & Richard Underhill Ave.
The Town will be undertaking construction of traffic calming measures at the Reeves Way Blvd & Richard Underhill Ave roundabout on Tues, Oct 31. The work is anticipated to be completed within 1-2 days. The northbound approach lane will be closed during the duration of the work and northbound traffic will be redirected to the southbound lane. All required traffic control measures will be followed and access to all vehicle traffic will be accommodated.
Pedestrian Crossover Construction to Begin on Main Street
Construction of a pedestrian crossover on Main Street is expected to begin the week of November 6 and is anticipated to continue until at least the end of the year (2023), depending on the supply of required materials. The work will extend from approximately 30m west of Lloyd Street to approximately 30m east of Freel Lane.
Construction Update: Highway 48 & Stouffville Road
The Ministry of Transportation has provided an updated regarding the culvert rehabilitation project at Highway 48 and Stouffville Road/Main Street. Although the project has not yet been completed, as of today, Friday, October 20 all interim traffic measures have been removed. The culvert rehabilitation project will resume in Spring 2024.

Upcoming Water Swabbing Program: Important Water Usage Advisory - October 22/23, 2023
The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville Water & Wastewater Department with the help of the Ontario Clean Water Agency will be conducting a Watermain Swabbing program in portions of eastend Stouffville (see map) Sunday October 22, 2023, from the hours of 9:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2023.
