The Town of Stouffville and The Regional Municipality of York have officially broke ground on a new joint Fire and Paramedic Response Station at 4902 Aurora Road in Ballantrae. The new Fire Station 5-2 and Paramedic Services Station 20 represents a collaborative investment between the Town and York Region to enhance emergency response services in Stouffville’s growing northern area.
Size & Structure: The building will be about 18,500 sq ft with three fire bays and two ambulance bays to support 24/7 operations for both fire and paramedic crews.
Optimized Layout: The station will be purpose-built to enable quicker dispatch, improve emergency response times, and serve as a contemporary hub for training, operations, and community readiness.
Modern, Sustainable Design: The station is being designed to achieve LEED Silver certification for energy efficiency and sustainability.
State-of-the-Art Spaces: It will include modern crew facilities, space for equipment, improved response dispatch capabilities, and room for training and operations planning.
Improved Emergency Response: The new location and facility are intended to improve emergency response times and provide more efficient service for both fire and paramedic teams.
Stronger Health & Safety Network: By co-locating fire and paramedic services, collaboration and resource sharing are improved, helping maintain high-quality patient care and public safety coverage across the region.
Community Safety & Growth: It supports the town’s growth and community safety needs with modern infrastructure built for long-term use.
Construction of the new Joint Fire and Paramedic Station has entered the main building phase. Most of the underground site servicing work has been completed, with the remaining service connections being finalized alongside building construction.
Work is now focused on building the structure itself, including the steel framework, floor and roof decking, exterior masonry walls, underground building services, and the building's exterior enclosure.
This marks an important milestone for the project, as the station is now becoming visible above ground and several construction trades are working on site at the same time. Over the coming months, crews will continue advancing the building through coordinated structural, mechanical, electrical, masonry, and exterior building work.
Construction activity remains ongoing throughout the site, with the project team coordinating work to maintain progress and keep the project moving efficiently into the next stage.
York Region and the Town of Stouffville are building safer, stronger and more resilient communities for today and for generations to come. Construction will be led by Pegah Construction Limited, with architectural design by Thomas Brown Architects Inc.
The total project cost is approximately $14.5 million, with funding shared between the Town and the Region. Substantial completion is expected in fall 2027.
Residents can expect to see the building's structure and exterior walls continue to grow over the coming weeks. Activity on site will remain visible as multiple construction teams work concurrently to advance the project toward the next phase of construction.
