This project reimagines Main Street as a vibrant destination - bringing new energy to local businesses, attracting visitors, and creating a downtown people want to spend time in. With refreshed streetscapes, better walkability, and greener design, it sets the stage for a more connected, thriving community for years to come.
Recognized as the heart of the community, this historic area serves as a central meeting place and shopping destination for both residents and visitors. The Town’s Official Plan emphasizes maintaining this vibrant hub as the primary focal point of the community, and the Downtown Revitalization project is making that vision a reality.
Downtowns are more than just geographic locations; they are commercial and cultural hubs that drive economic activity, create jobs, and foster a strong sense of identity. A dynamic and inviting downtown attracts businesses, residents, and visitors, enriching the area’s cultural life and fiscal health.
The Town hired Accardi Engineering Group Ltd to lead the downtown redesign that will create a walkable, distinctive downtown with social gathering points, renew streetscapes and underground infrastructure, improve accessibility, and include sustainable, green features.
The revitalization is divided into two key phases:
Preliminary design work began in the Fall of 2024, with underground investigations and surveying. Past Public Information Centres (PICs), such as the one in September 2022, and future community engagement opportunities will continue to guide the design. Your feedback is essential throughout this process.
Construction mobilization is currently anticipated for October 2026. The work will be completed in phases to help minimize disruption to the surrounding area; however, the detailed phasing plan, sequencing, and overall construction schedule will only be finalized following the award of the construction contract, which is anticipated in September 2026.
Temporary road closures and/or lane restrictions will be required at various stages of construction to facilitate the safe completion of the work. Traffic control measures and detour signage will be implemented as needed to help direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic safely through and around the construction zone. Efforts will be made to minimize disruptions wherever possible.
On-street parking and parking access within the immediate vicinity of active construction areas may be temporarily impacted during certain phases of work. Despite these impacts, pedestrian access through the area and to adjacent properties will be maintained throughout construction to the greatest extent possible.
Maintaining access to local businesses and residences is a key priority for the project team. While temporary adjustments to access routes may be required from time to time, reasonable access to businesses will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
Occasional temporary water shut-offs may be required as part of the infrastructure works. Any planned interruptions will be coordinated in advance and communicated to affected properties days or weeks ahead of time whenever possible. At this time, no significant electrical service interruptions are anticipated as part of the project.
Dedicated construction staging and material storage areas have not yet been finalized. Additional details regarding staging locations and site logistics will be confirmed once the successful contractor has been awarded and construction planning is further advanced.
The Town recognizes the importance of minimizing disruption to businesses throughout the construction period. A dedicated field ambassador/community liaison will be available during construction to assist with communication and respond to questions or concerns as they arise. In addition, regular construction notices and project updates will be distributed to affected stakeholders, and updated project information will continue to be made available through this project website.
Yes, there will be opportunities for affected businesses and residents to provide input and discuss concerns prior to construction commencing. The Town is currently anticipating a public open house in Fall 2026, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the project team and the successful contractor to review the construction approach, ask questions, and discuss any business-specific concerns.
Your thoughts and ideas are crucial. Share them in person at the Open House, through the project webpage, or by contacting our project team directly.

The design consultation contract has been awarded to Accardi Engineering Group Ltd. This phase of the project consists of undertaking community consultation, preliminary and detailed design, site inspections and material testing, all which will lead to phase two, construction of new infrastructure and the beautification of the downtown core.
Subcontractors from Delph & Jenkins Surveyors performed surveys of the area and 4Sight Utility Engineers conducted the subsurface utility engineering (SUE) investigation along Main Street between Edward Street and Park Drive. This investigative work looks to map all hidden underground utilities, pipes and wires, to ensure safe digging during construction.
Subcontractor from Terrapex Environmental Ltd will be performing soil investigation along Main Street from Park Drive to Edward Street during week of 17th November 2025.
The Downtown’s importance is recognized in the Community Vision of the Town’s Official Plan, which notes that the Town will “maintain its historic downtown as a central meeting place and shopping area for the community, and adjacent rural and urban areas”. The Official Plan further states that the downtown is “the primary focal point of the community”.
In early 2019 the Main Reconstruction Working Group was formed. The group consists of the Mayor, a member of Council, Public Works and Development Services staff, residents, and business owners. The group lead by the Director of Public Works, meets monthly to provide direction to the Main Street Reconstruction Project.
The Town has engaged the services of exp Services Inc. to provide design services within the downtown core. In consultation with the Main Street Reconstruction Group a list of objectives was established:
The Town hosted two virtual Public Information Centres (PIC) to introduce the draft design and gather feedback on September 6 and 12, 2022. The virtual meetings included a presentation and a question-and-answer session with the Consultant and representatives of the Main Street Reconstruction Working Group. Each session was recorded and is available on this page under Important Links.
We also launched an online survey for feedback to be consolidated and presented to Council for consideration.
